The USDA 2008 Organic Production Survey counted 4.1 million acres of land on 14,500 organic farms and ranches in the United States. Many of these farms could benefit from propane-fueled flame weed control. To capitalize on this growing agriculture market, the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) helped researchers at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln develop an advanced flame weed control system for row crops.

PERC supported field studies in corn and soybeans have resulted in weed control levels of 80 to 90 percent when applied twice during a weed control season, which is more than double the level obtained using just cultivation. Visit the Propaneville Farms virtual farm tour at www.agpropane.com to watch a video about flame weed control.

PERC is committed to helping America’s farmers and ranchers efficiently power their operations. Visit www.agpropane.com for more information about flame weed control and other PERC agricultural programs.
